Applying Equivalence Class Methods in Contract Bridge
نویسنده
چکیده
One of the challenges in analyzing the strategies in contract bridge stems from the fact that it is a Bayesian game with a very large type space, and that players’ action sets depend on their type. This results in a the strategy space being of a size where brute force methods of analysis are not practical. We present a general approach to simplifying this strategy space through the use of equivalence clases over types. The equivalence classes are chosen in such a way that the strategy needs to conditions on less information, thereby reducing the effective size and richness of the strategy. A common subproblem in bridge, the finesse play, is used as an example in applying this approach. Several types of finesses are described and modelled formally, along with the corresponding equivalence classe. The reduction in the strategy space as a result of the equivalence class representation is demonstrated on these examples. We then discuss possible methods of improving or extending this approach to larger subproblems in bridge.

Quasi-Monte Carlo Methods in Financial Engineering: An Equivalence Principle and Dimension Reduction
Quasi-Monte Carlo (QMC) methods are playing an increasingly important role in the pricing of complex financial derivatives. For models in which the prices of the underlying assets are driven by Brownian motions, the efficiency of QMC methods is known to depend crucially on the method of generating the Brownian motions. This paper focuses on the impact of various constructions. While the Brownia...

The success of long-term gas sales contracts is largely related to the ability of the seller and the buyer to adapt the terms of the contract to their conditions, infrastructure, facilities and market. If the buyer's demand changes from season to season and seasonally fluctuates, problems and complexities arise for the seller and he may need to provide the excess capacity to produce, refine and...

In this paper, we study an equivalence relation on the set of fuzzysubgroups of an arbitrary group G and give four equivalent conditions each ofwhich characterizes this relation. We demonstrate that with this equivalencerelation each equivalence class constitutes a lattice under the ordering of fuzzy setinclusion. Moreover, we study the behavior of these equivalence classes under theaction of a...
متن کاملDerived equivalence of symmetric special biserial algebras
We introduce Brauer complex of symmetric SB-algebra, and reformulate in terms of Brauer complex the so far known invariants of stable and derived equivalence of symmetric SB-algebras. In particular, the genus of Brauer complex turns out to be invariant under derived equivalence. We study transformations of Brauer complexes which preserve class of derived equivalence. Additionally, we establish ...
